The Highland Park Cultural Arts Network (HPCAN) is dedicated to mutual support for local cultural arts groups, facilitating partnerships and acting as a coordinator and conduit for arts information and resources. We need people to work at information tables at various cultural events throughout the year, giving out information on all of the cultural groups that are in and around
Highland Park. Any event or performance you attend would be one in which we'd like an information booth set up with information on upcoming performances and events. Our member groups include East on Central, The Art Center, HP Strings, the Library, etc. No direct knowledge of any of our cultural programmers is required but some familiarity with these events in and around HP is helpful. The real SKILL is being friendly, approachable and inviting. Each event will have a different site contact and the volunteer will be given instructions on demand. Our events take place at the Community House, Art Center and Music Theatre Company at Karger.

Gary Graf Center at 510 10th St., is open in the evening on Tuesdays and Thursdays and in the daytime on Saturdays.
Volunteer positions available as…
Tax preparers: Work with clients to file federal and state tax returns and provide counseling on tax credits and forms.
Tax site assistants: Perform essential non-tax-preparation activities, including client intake, translating and educating on basic banking options available on site. Spanish translators are particularly needed at the Waukegan tax site.

The OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring program places volunteers in the schools to tutor students in North Shore School District 112 during the school day for 45 minute sessions once a week. Tutors work one-on-one with the same student for the entire school year, assisting the child in reading, writing and language skills. Due to the time commitment required, the program is not for people who take extended vacations during the winter months.
OASIS, a national non-profit organization for people 50 years old and over, is dedicated to education, wellness and volunteerism. The OASIS tutoring program has thousands of participants each year volunteering in 25 cities across the United States.
