Hot Volunteer Opportunities

 
 

Help International students practice English conversation in a relaxed setting.

Volunteers sign up for dates at one or more sites.
An American volunteer is grouped with a small number of international students who are currently taking classes with the District 113 Adult Education Program. New talking points and games are provided monthly.
Conversation Club meets once per month, October 2016 - April 2017. Morning , afternoon and evening sessions are being offered at four locations.

MEALS ON WHEELS
Volunteers needed to deliver meals in the Highland Park area. Drivers cover one route a week (Monday-Friday), beginning at 11 a.m., for 1-1/12 hours. For information contact Lake County Coordinator Melissa Abboushi at 847-782-4126 or mabboushi@catholiccharities.net


The Saint James Food Pantry needs more people willing to pick up food from the Highland Park Jewel, drive it in their own car and unload it to the Saint James  Food Pantry at 140 North Ave, Highwood.

Schedule would be 8-9 a.m. on either Monday or Thursday morning once or twice a month.

ASSIST STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES

Volunteer to help enrich the lives of students with disabilities with the Northern Suburban Special Educational District (NSSED). Children ages pre-k through high school in several locations in Highland Park, Deerfield, Northbrook and Glenview. Volunteers are needed to assist in the classrooms, office, during or after school and also in the summer. There is a special need for trained volunteers who know and could lead classes in yoga and relaxation or music. Also, volunteers are needed to join our "Puppet Troupe" that performs disability awareness skits in local grade schools. Contact person is Teri Rosenberg at
